Dear
Friend,
Some very significant
events have occurred in Israel during the past ten days: the election
of Amir Peretz as head of the Labor Party, the agreement to release Gaza
from isolation, the necessity for new Israeli elections in a few months,
and Ariel Sharon's splitting from the Likud Party. These events should
have a major impact on Israel's future. Let us hope that they will lead
Israel to a secure and lasting peace.
Sincerely,
Arthur S. Obermayer
